Dr. Mansoor Ahmad was born in 1953 at Lahore, Pakistan. He graduated
from Karachi University in 1972 and did his post-graduation from the same
university in 1974 with FIRST Class.
Just after his M. Sc., he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department
of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Karachi with the
responsibility of designing the syllabi for pharmacy students along with the
teaching undergraduate and postgraduate classes. He was also responsible for
establishing research facilities for M. Phil & Ph.D. students. During his
tenure as lecturer he taught Phytochemistry and Pharmacognosy/Herbal
Medicines/Phyto-medicines.
In 1980 he was awarded a Swiss Government Scholarship for Ph.D. at Pharmacy Department, ETH-Zurich, Switzerland.
He completed his degree in 1985 from the above-mentioned university under the
guidance of Professor Dr. Otto Sticher
and during this period he published two papers. He joined University of Karachi
again in 1985 and was promoted to an Assistant
Professor in early 1986.
He remained Assistant
Professor from 1986 to 1989 and
achieved following academic recognition:
a)
Published
ten research papers in national & international journals,
b)
Supervised
six students for their Ph.D. & M.
Pharm. projects,
c)
During
this period he was awarded DAAD (Germany)
Scholarship for Post Doctoral research work in 1989.
He was promoted to the rank
of Associate Professor in early 1989 in the same department. He
published more than 82 scientific
papers in various world-renowned journals. He was made Professor in1997.
He supervised one Ph.D. and
Five M. Pharm degree, awarded to the students during 1990-1994. In 1992-1993 he
was awarded Post Doctoral Fellowship
and proceeded to College of Pharmacy, University of Rhode Island, USA,
to work under Professor Dr. Yuzuru
shimizu on Toxins
and Anticancer Drugs.
In 1994 he was offered
second DAAD Scholarship in Germany to work on chemical and
biological studies of medicinal plants, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Horst Rimpler at Albert-Ludwigs
University, Freiburg, Germany.
In 1994-99 he was honored
with medals by Thinkers Forum and PSF, Pakistan Pharmacist Association (PPA), Pakistan Society of
Pharmacognosy, Major Zia-ur-Rehman (Shaheed) Academy, Karachi for his
meritorious services in the field of research on medicine and medicinal plants.
In March and November1997 he
organized National Seminars on Herbs, Medicines & Therapeutics and Awareness of Diabetes, Complications, Problems
and their Solutions.

He served the Department of
Pharmacognosy, University of Karachi, as
Chairman from 1977-79, 1990-92 and 1996-99.
Presentation of a New Theory:
His 1995 & 1996 research
publications deal with the drugs having cardiac pharmacological activities.
In these publications, he proposed a
Theory on Cardiac
Drug Design in Phytotherapy Research Journal, U. K. (September vol. 9) 1995 and 1996,
which might change the trend of drug designing and
preparations.
His previous publications
(1990-93) on synthetic & semi synthetic drugs for cardiac problem
specially Anti-Cholesterol
and Anti-Lipid
agents, are of high significance.
Services for Life Saving Profession:
Nowadays he is organizing
the research and research facilities in the field of Phyto-medicine/Phytochemistry
& Pharmacognosy/Herbal Medicines, Biology, at newly
established Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of
Pharmacy, University of Karachi.
In November 1999 he organized National Science Conference on Herbs, Medicines & Therapeutics and published
the proceedings of First Science Conference organized in March 1997. In
November 1999 his six students submitted their thesis for the award of M. Phil. degree.
Services for Humanity:
In 1998-99 he designed,
prepared and formulated FIVE most
important herbal medicines for Arthritis, Ulcer,
Sex, Fever & Cough (Respiratory infections) and Digestion,
which is his outstanding achievement towards professionalism and a work for
humanity. He is providing these medicines to patients free of charge
regardless of their sex, age, cast, colour, country and religion.
On the above mentioned outstanding and highly significant services for human kind, his name was recommend for Khwarzmi International Award and Presidential Award 2000 which he received in August 2000. Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) awarded him Nishan-e-Azmat-e-Danish in October 2000.

4. German Government Scholarship (DAAD) 1st May 1994-31 July 1994. The
research work was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Horst
Rimpler, Institut Pharmazeutische Biologie, Albert-Ludwigs Universitat, Freiburg, in the field of Medicinal Plants (Chemical and Biological Studies).
5. A Medal of Outstanding Research was awarded by PSF in recognition of
scientific research work on medicine and medicinal plants, 1994.
6. A Gold Medal of Outstanding Research was awarded by Al-Mufakkir Forum
(Thinker Forum) Karachi in recognition of scientific research work on medicine
and medicinal plants, 1994.
7. Philadelphia University, Sept. 1994-Sept. 1996, on the request of Philadelphia
University (Jordan) to Government of Pakistan, was appointed as Associate Professor in College of Pharmacy and taught Clinical Pharmacy & therapeutics, Advance Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutics I & II and Phytochemistry.
8. Pakistan Pharmacists Association (PPA, Sindh) has given award of Excellence in recognition of
affection, care, dedication, guidance and professionalism to teaching and
research in the field of pharmacy 1997.
9. American Bibliographical Society has included
the name in the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership of 1997 on leadership qualities and
extraordinary services in the field of pharmacy and medicine.
10. Major Zia-ur-Rehman (Shaheed) Memorial has given award of Excellence in recognition of scientific research work on medicine and medicinal plants, 1998.
11.
A Gold Medal of Outstanding Research
work was awarded by Pakistan Society of Pharmacognosy in recognition of scientific
research work on medicine, medicinal plants & services for humanity, 1999.
12. The Presidential Award 2000, IZAZ-E-FAZEELAT, was awarded by Pakistan Government on 14th
August 2000, in recognition of
scientific research work, development of herbal medicine, medicinal plants
& services for humanity, 2000.
13. Karachi
